Polo Officer Recognized for Finding Autistic Teen on Frigid Winter Day

At Monday night’s Polo City Council meeting Ofc. Diaz was recognized for his quick thinking and utilization of outside departments on Thursday February 25th.

Ofc. Diaz was dispatched to a missing person call. The subject was an autistic teen that had wandered off without proper winter clothing. After a short time collecting information and searching the immediate area, and knowing the temperatures were dropping, Ofc. Diaz asked for the assistance of Polo Fire Department, Polo Ambulance Service and the Ogle County K9.

Approximately 2hrs from the initial call the missing subject was located and returned unharmed to their residence.

It was Ofc. Diaz’s care for the community, quick thinking and exceptional use of resources that reunited this person with their family, unharmed.

The city would also like to extend their gratitude to the Polo Fire Department, Ogle County K9 handler Deputy Shippert and K9 Duke for their assistance with this call.
