In a way you may say it is the end of an era in Rock Falls City Council history. For 37 years Lee Folsom has been the Fourth Ward Alderman. It turns out his current term, his 10th, will be his last.
During the Rock Falls City Council meeting Tuesday night, Mayor William Wescott presented to the council the resignation of Folsom, effective immediately. Wescott praised Folsom for his long service to the city.
He told the council he will follow the state guidelines and has 60 days to appoint someone from the Fourth Ward to fill out the remaining time on the term.
Folsom served under 6 mayors during his time on the council. Wescott pointed out that Folsom served on nearly every standing committee that was available.
For the past year or so, Folsom has been in failing health and is currently seeking care in a nursing home. Due to this health condition he decided he could no longer serve on the council effectively.
