Lee County Board Throws a Life Line to Liquor License Holders in the County

Lee County Chair John Nicholson said this action would fall under the emergency area for the county.

A motion was brought before the Lee County Board Thursday during their regular session.  The motion was to refund half of the liquor license fee to businesses in Lee County.  It was then changed to reimburse the entire fee totally $18,000.

A couple of board members said they liked the idea, but, they were concerned about the precedence it may set.  The members asked what other fees and taxes will some people say they need to be refunded.  It was pointed out the county already allowed people to pay their property taxes late without penalty.

It was also announced the Lee County Health Department was in discussion to wave some of their fees for restaurants in the county.  It was suggested to give the refund or a lower liquor license fee next year..  The response was they did not know how many of these businesses would be open next year. Others said it is $18,000 and the county has spent $18,000 on stranger things than this.

The County Board approved the total refund of the liquor license fee.
