The Sauk Valley has returned to Phase 3 and when this happened several of the area County Sheriff’s Department said they would not enforce the mitigations.
Lee County Sheriff John Simonton did not say his department would not enforce the mitigations, but, he does say he is dealing with the businesses that choose to ignore the guidelines. Simonton said he is dealing with them in a compassionate manner because he understands that some of the bars and restaurants may not reopen if they close their doors again. The Sheriff said it is important these businesses stay open because the sales tax they generate help government entities such as his to survive.
Simonton said he tells these businesses it is up to them and his deputies will not be the mask police. The sheriff is pushing that people wear their masks, social distance and try and follow the other guidelines. He said it is up to the businesses and he wants them to know this is a health safety issue.
