White Pines Resort Owner Says Governor’s Plan Was Final Nail in the Coffin as Resort Declares Bankruptcy and Closes

Beth George, owner of White Pines Resort for over 30 years, said when the pandemic and state restrictions first started she followed all of the rules.  She added she believed in shutting down to save lives, but, she went on to say the rules changed and the numbers will not work for her business.

On Wednesday she announced she was declaring bankruptcy and has closed the business for good.  She said when she saw the Governor’s 5 phase plan she knew that was the final nail in the coffin.

George said her business survives on volume and if she is only allowed to open with 25-50% capacity she cannot survive.  Even with the business shuttered at the moment, George said money is still going out the door.  As she put it, there is no way she can stay in businesses if she has to wait till 2021 to maybe fully open.  She added she is a survivor, but with tears in her eyes, she said she will not be doing it at White Pines.

George stated she is going bankrupt to hopefully pay back the people who made wedding reservations.  The gift shop stock will be sold off to the public on Monday through Wednesday of next week.
