Dixon Police Will Seek Compliance From Public In Regards to Wearing Masks

Are you ready to wear a mask when you are out in public?  According to the extended stay at home order from the Governor persons out in public or in stores will need to wear a mask or some kind of approved face covering.

Dixon Police Chief Steve Howell said this new rule went into effect Today Friday May 1st.  The chief says if you can maintain a 6 foot distance you do not need one.

Howell said the way his officers will try to enforce this rule is to try and get the person without the mask to comply.  He stated they will speak with the person and try to get them to understand the importance of wearing a mask.  The next step if the person is in a store and still does not want to wear a mask the officer will then ask the person to leave.

Howell said simply talking to someone who is not in compliance worked when they were trying to enforce the social distancing guide lines.  He hopes this will work with masks too.
