Republic Waste has notified the City of Sterling that until further notice, they will operate under the following guidelines:
They will accept cart contents only. Drivers will not be authorized to leave their vehicle to pick up waste outside of the cart.
Yard waste and bulk waste programs will be suspended.
They may need to use alternative disposal methods if there are disruptions to recycling processing capabilities or if recycling contamination increases. It’s important to keep waste out of your recycling container.
Republic assured the city they will pick up the bulk waste later (no additional fees), so please hang on to those large items temporarily. Leaves and grass will need to be composted or mulched, at least temporarily. The city was not given a potential restart date.
The most important aspect for public health in solid waste disposal is getting the regular trash disposed of. As such, Republic is trying to minimize driver exposures and maintain the ability to move drivers to places where other crews may become quarantined due to exposure.
