John Kalman Nagy

John Kalman Nagy died peacefully at home on Thursday, January 16, 2020, in Dixon, IL at the age of 66.

John was born in Dixon on April 2, 1953, to Louis and Delores (Heinzeroth) Nagy. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1971 and Illinois State University in 1975. He married Debra Hartle in 1975. They welcomed two children, Leigh Michelle in 1982 and Gregory Louis in 1987.

After becoming a CPA, John went to work for Clifton Gunderson and practiced public accounting there for many years. In 1998, he became the CFO for the IFH Group and worked there until his retirement in 2018.

John was a high school wrestler and passed his love of the sport on to his family, especially his son Greg, who wrestled from elementary school through high school. He was a volunteer in his community and served on many committees and boards, including the KSB Hospital Board, the Kreider Foundation, Dixon Booster Club, Dixon Wrestling Club, the Dixon Chamber of Commerce, and the Dixon Country Club. John loved music, concerts, boating, reading, good food, funny movies, cheeseburgers, beer, Jimmy Buffett, and the Cubs. John and Debbie loved to plan and take trips and the family made many happy memories on the road.

John is survived by his wife Debra Nagy; his children, Leigh (Mark) Delhotal of Franklin Grove, Greg Nagy of Chicago; grandsons, John “Jack” Delhotal, Silas Delhotal; siblings, Pam (David) Cunningham of Mt. Morris, Karla Nagy of Dixon, Jeff (Lorri) Nagy of Dixon; nieces and nephews, Molly Cunningham of Monona, WI, Jake (Michelle) Nagy of Golden, CO, Brenda (Jeff) Soltow of Polo, Ben (Jaselyn) Nagy of Dixon; and great-nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Delores Nagy.

A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, January 19 at the Dixon VFW from 12-5. Cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Dixon Booster Club or Dixon Wrestling Club.
