Dixon Park District Executive Director has, for the past 6-8 months, has worked almost exclusively on the community center project. This past week all of the plans for a community center came to a grinding halt and everything is currently on hold.
The district was hoping to put on the March ballot a referendum to get voter approval to increase the size of the park district to match the size of the school district. Long, following the Wednesday night Park Board meeting, said no referendum, no community center.
Much of this decision stemmed from a report in regards to the financial numbers of the building and maintenance of a community center. Long said they numbers were not good, but, they did not show the impact of the partnerships involved.
Long said the current partners, the school district, YMCA, Dixon Strong and the City of Dixon, are still meeting and working together. They will be deciding what steps to take next.
The district is still seeking an IDNR $2.5 million grant that if received will go towards the construction of the community center. But, at the moment, Long said no referendum, no community center.
