If you thought you had a large crowd at your home on Thanksgiving Day, how would you like to prepare a meal for over 700?
That is what the Knights of Columbus in Dixon did on Thanksgiving as it was time for their annual Free Thanksgiving Day Meal. It was estimated between 350 and 400 persons came to the hall for the dinner with all the trimmings. The time was not just for single or senior persons, but, a large number of families came by and enjoyed the feast.
Around 2 am Thursday morning members of the Knights of Columbus started cooking the 35 turkeys they had. This group was joined a few hours later as more came to prepare the side dishes. Still others arrived to serve the meals as well as prepare the carry out and delivered meals. Organizers said much of the leftovers went to the area shelters.
