School in Dixon resumes on Monday August 19th and many parents are still scrambling to get the school supplies and new clothes for their kids to have. Getting school supplies can be tough, especially if you are on a tight budget.
For many years now the Tools for School program has worked under the belief that no child in the Dixon School System should start the school year without the tools they need. That is what happened on Monday at Reagan Middle School as hundreds of backpacks filled with supplies were given out.
Organizer Pam Tourtillott said they not only want to help ease the burden of getting the school supplies, but, they also love to see the look on the kids faces when they are able to pick out their own backpack and fill it with what they need for school.
Tourtillott also wanted to point out that if you were unable to make it to the giveaway on Monday in a couple of days all of the remaining supplies will be available at your child’s school.
Tourtillot said without the generosity of so many groups and individuals, the Tools for School would not exist. She pointed out the Kiwanis donations and the over 700 backpacks donated by the Motorcycle Club, the Vendettas. She also wanted to thank the Dixon School district and all of the athletes and cheerleaders who helped out.
