Pastor Howard Lee Wiseman

Pastor Howard Lee Wiseman, lovingly known as “Bro”, 86, of Dixon, passed away July 3, 2018, at Rock River Hospice & Home in Sterling.

He was married for 58 years to the day to his sweetheart, Cherrith Kathryn Hill, joined on July 3, 1960 in McCook, NE. Howard pastored at Lincoln Ave Church of God, Dixon, for 19 years before retiring in 1997. Howard’s 34-year career spanned four different states and 5 congregations: North Dakota, Texas, Ohio and two in Illinois.

Howard was born September 17, 1931, in Lewistown, OH, the son of Everett and Goldie (Gonterman) Wiseman.  Howard served his country in the United States Navy; after the service he went on to receive a bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Theology.  Howard stayed in shape by sweeping the old Pamida shopping centers and Aldi parking lots, along with working with his wife at the Upholstery Fabric Outlet in Dixon, which they have owned from 1980 to present.

He is survived by his wife, Cherrith Wiseman of Dixon; three grateful children, AvaLynda (Steve) Casey, Joel (Amy) Wiseman, Lenae (Danny) Day; ten adoring grandchildren, Lindsey (Jaleel) Richards, Kathrine (Etienne) Falconer, Whitney (Matt) Magruder, Clinton (Alice) Casey, Courtney (Ben) Edwards, Emily Wiseman, Daniel Shadow (Rachel) Day, Kelsey Wiseman, Christy (Justin) Hohlen, Joshua Wiseman. He leaves special memories to his eleven great-grandchildren — Addison, Sophia, and Keegan Falconer; Taylor, Aiden, Zooey, Harper, and Jason Magruder; Ottilie Casey; Meir Day; and Violet Edwards, and 3 more on the way. He loved spending time with his remaining brother, Ray (Marilyn) Wiseman and sister, Janet (Hip) Hipple.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, and 6 siblings.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Abiding Word Church, in Sterling.  Funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mike Worrell, pastor of the Lincoln Avenue Church of God, officiating. Following a luncheon, burial with full Navy Military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon at 1:00. A private wreath-laying ceremony into the Rock River will conclude Howard’s memorial service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Lincoln Avenue Church of God.

Arrangements are being completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
