Melvin Sneek, 87, of Dixon, died Friday, June 22, 2018, at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon.
He was employed by Reynolds Wire National Standard Company and retired from Raynor Garage Doors as a maintenance technician.
Melvin was born June 30, 1930 in Freeport, the son of George and Rena (Terhark) Sneek. He married Mary Frances Wheatland on August 29, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Amboy. Melvin served in the U.S. Army stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He loved his family, cowboy movies, gardening, and his special dog, Twinkle.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Gregg (Michelle) Sneek, Gary (Debbie) Sneek, one daughter Marcia (Dave) Cruse, all of Dixon; eleven grandchildren, Samantha and Alexis Sneek, Brandon Cruse, Piper and Logan Sneek, Joshua, Katelynn, and Amanda Pankhurst, Randall, Mike, and Melvin Pettenger; and four great grandchildren, Abigail, Calvin, Morgan, and Boston.
Melvin was preceded in death by two daughters, Melanie Pankhurst, Melva Meridith; his parents and grandparents; three brothers, Simon, Fred, and Alfred Sneek; and two sisters, Jennie Thompson, and Katherine Yingling.
A memorial visitation will be 4 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon. A brief prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Spaulding, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Dixon, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial has been established to Dixon Veterans Park.
