Dixon Park Board Dots the “i” and Crosses the “t” on the Referendum Question

Shall the Dixon Park District annex for Park Purposes the portion of the territory contained with the Dixon Community Unit School District #170 which is not currently in the Park District.

That is the question to be placed before the voters in a referendum in the March elections.  At a special Dixon Park Board meeting Monday night, the board was presented for their approval the question.  Executive Director Duane Long said the question needed to be structured by the district lawyers.

This past year the district has opened the new splash pad, new playground equipment at Lowell Park and other new features and improvements.  All of these improvements need money and this was obtained through donations, grants and creative financing.

Long said this cannot be sustainable in the long term.  He went on to say the district has no infrastructure improvement money and with the PTEL and other tax caps, increasing the size of the district is the only way future improvements will be possible.
