Sterling Learns of Developer Interest in the Lawrence Brothers Building

The City of Sterling continues to look at ways to turn the abandoned Lawrence Brothers Building on the River Front into something useful again.

During the Monday night Council meeting the members heard a proposal from Gary Anderson.  Anderson’s company specializes is re-purposing older buildings and Anderson told the council he has a developer who is interested in the Sterling site.

Mayor Skip Lee said the site needs to be cleaned up before any developer will come in and that is why they have been seeking a Brownsfield Grant.

The mayor also said a feasibility study of what the site could be used for needs to be done.  The first would be feasibility for the entire City of Sterling and then taking that information and narrowing it down to the Lawrence Brothers Building.

The mayor further stated there have been many suggestions of what the site could be used for.  This included a hotel, but, with the recent addition of the Holiday Inn and Suites on the Rock Falls side, that may not be at the forefront of development ideas anymore.
