Saturday was Shop Small Day. It is the time during the holidays when shoppers are encouraged to come to their locally owned stores and to do some of their Christmas shopping there.
In Dixon, the support of the community was very visible. Many of the downtown stores had a steady stream of shoppers. Matthew Lenox, Marketing Director for the Dixon Chamber of Commerce and Main Street said the day is more than just another Christmas shopping day. It is an important day for the local economy and the community on a whole.
Lenox said every dollar spent locally this holiday season stays local. The money supports the people who work in the stores and much of it goes to support organizations such as the school district and more.
The great thing about shopping local is the fact you may find something for a Christmas present you will not find anywhere else.
