Old Man Winter seems to be making an early visit to the Sauk Valley. The road crews have their trucks and salt ready to go. Public Works Director for Dixon Matt Heckman said road crews were on standby Sunday night.
Heckman went on to say when the crews begin their operations depends on the type of weather we received. If the snow is thick and wet and there may be ice mixed in with it, they will send the snow plows out early. If the snow is light and fluffy, then they may hit the streets a little later.
He said the most important thing for drivers to remember is to give themselves more time and more room between them and other vehicles. As Heckman put it, slow and steady and do not crowd the plow. He also said driving in winter conditions is no time to be on any kind of electronic device, even hands free.
