Lee County Sheriff Says Don’t Confuse Steam With Smoke

The Lee County Sheriff Department wants to remind people that fall harvest is in full swing. Grain dryers are running 24 hours a day. With cold temperature the steam off the grain dryers may grab your attention and think something might be on fire. Know that steam will dissipate while smoke does not.

Do not call 911 unless you see visible flames or heavy smoke. Most grain elevators will have someone working while they are drying grain. Local farmers may not be out watching dryers all night. This information will help our local farmers along with our local fire departments.
