History will be repeating itself on Thursday.
In 1919 a young military officer named Dwight Eisenhower led a military vehicle convoy on a cross country trip. The purpose was to test the ability to move large number of forces across country at the time.
This trip is being repeated as the Military Vehicle Preservation Association will be rolling into town around noon on Thursday. The original convoy one hundred years ago stopped at the old Lee County Courthouse and the citizens provided lunch on the lawn. This time the group will be stopping at Palmyra Pub and Eatery.
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association is just what the name implies as a group dedicated to preserving historic military vehicles. The community is invited to stop out and take pictures of the vehicles as they take a break in Dixon.
