Arthur “Art” A. Johnson, 80, of Walnut, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care in Walnut, IL.
He was a truck driver for Northwestern Steel and Wire in Sterling, after retiring he went to work for Ronnie Wolf hauling grain for 15 years.
Art was born, May 19, 1939, in Sublette, IL, the son of Arthur A. and Mae (Helfrich) Johnson, Sr. He married Barbara Spath on August 10, 1985, in Olivia, MN. Art served in the United States Navy. His passion was to raise and show “show pigeons” and was a member of the National Chinese Owl Club. Art enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends, but most of all loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara Johnson; five children , Jurle (Butch) Pfeifer of Dixon, Dawn (Darold) Schaefer of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Darren (Lisa) Remore of Brooklyn Park, MN, Deana (Jeffrey McCollum) DeVore of Clay Center, KS, David (Tammy) Furney of Onamia, MN; eleven grandchildren, Josh Yardley, Jordan Yardley, Dain Dahlsten, Danielle Dahlsten, Devan Schaefer, Joseph DeVore, Jordyn DeVore, Carissa Remore, Aliceyn Remore, Dylan Furney, and Matthew Furney; twelve great- grandchildren; and one sister, Judy Reubin of Dixon.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Janice Heaton
A memorial graveside service will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon, IL, with the Pastor Jack Briggs, officiating. Cremations rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers and plants a memorial has been established.
