The Sterling City Council says any ordinance concerning feeding wild animals will not have anything to do with people who have bird feeders or even squirrel feeders. The possible actions will be directed towards people who put out a great deal of food with the intent of feeding raccoons or feral cats.
The council recently heard from a resident about problems they have had, reportedly including an altercations, as a result of a neighbor putting out bags of cat food for the raccoons.
Mayor Skip Lee said people just need to be good neighbors and realize what their actions will mean to their neighbors.
What exactly the council will come up with is not known at this time. Mayor Lee said people may think those raccoons and feral cats are cute and adorable, but, they can actually become dangerous.
He also stated if you put out feed for one you will certainly attract a large number of other animals and the animals will not just stay in your yard.
