Dixon Man Found Not Guilty of Domestic Battery

A Lee County Jury found 59 year old Brian R. Person of Dixon not guilty of domestic battery. Person was charged on July 9, 2018 with domestic battery in that he allegedly grabbed a minor resident of his home by the throat.

During the trial, witnesses claimed that Person grabbed the minor by throat with his right hand and lifted him off the ground for 40-50 seconds. However, when police examined the minor, they found no evidence of trauma to his neck.

Dixon Police Officers testified that Mr. Person, who was cooperative and answered their questions, admitted to restraining the minor, but denied any intention to harm him.

Person testified on his own behalf, and claimed that the minor, who has special needs, was out of control, and Mr. Person simply restrained him in the safe manner in which he was trained as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant

After a full day of testimony presided over by Associate Circuit Judge Charles T. Beckman, the jury deliberated for only 30 minutes before finding Mr. Person not guilty of the charges.
