The Dixon First Responders are known for giving their all in sweat and tears and now it is a proven fact they will even give their blood.
This past week the annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive was held. This is a friendly competition between the Dixon City Fire Department and the Police Department.
The American Red Cross handled the blood drive and they reported they received 83 pints of blood. It is estimated the 83 pints will save 249 lives.
Organizer Eric Bergemann called the event a big success. He said they had 20 first timers show up to give blood. Bergemann also stated they had one woman who has given blood every year for over 20 years.
He also wanted to point out the Red Cross conducts blood drives throughout the Sauk Valley and they plan to return next year for another Battle of the Badges.
You may be wondering who did win the Battle of the Badges. It really was no contest as the fire department won 63 pints to the Police Departments 20. Bergemann said the fire department was hosting the event so they had a bit of an advantage.
