Garbage Truck in Wrong Lane Leads to Early Morning Head-on Crash

Whiteside County Deputies, Sterling Fire Department, Rock Falls Fire Department, and CGH EMS responded to a 2 vehicle head-on crash just after 5am Friday. T

he accident happened on Moline Road at Mellotts Road, rural Sterling.  A garbage truck driven by 40 year old Zachariah L. Randall of Sterling was improperly parked in the opposite lane of travel facing southwest in the northeast lane of Moline Road.

A second vehicle driven by 72 year old Rita R. Specht of Lyndon failed to distinguish that the garbage truck was parked in her lane of travel and she crashed into the garbage truck head-on causing major damage to both vehicles.

Specht was transported to CGH for treatment and/or observation of her injuries.  Randall was cited for Improper Lane Usage and was uninjured in the crash.
