Dixon City Fire Department Will Still Give it a Try, But, River Condition May Spoil the Green

Every St. Patrick’s Day in Dixon one of the traditions has been the Dixon City Fire Department with their large ladder truck shooting the green dye into the river. This year the river is pretty high, rough and flowing fast, but, Chief Tim Shipman says they are still going to give it a try.

Shipman admits these conditions on the river are not ideal for doing this and the speed of the current will take it away pretty quickly.

Shipman says he has always hoped to turn the river green like they do in Chicago. However, the Chicago effort has a couple of advantages according to Shipman.  He says they are able to stop the flow of the river and they use a powder from a boat to turn it green.  Shipman went on to say they have always wanted to try this, but, it too would not stick around long since the river is still flowing.
