Did the Rock River Reach Dixon High School, You Need to Dig Deep for the Answer

When the Rock River first began to overflow its banks there were major concerns of the river reaching the Dixon High School. From all appearances the river did not get that high and the school was spared.

Grounds and Maintenance Director Kevin Schultz said looks can be deceiving.  It appears the river did reach the High School and did leak into several basement rooms, including the boiler room.

Schultz said this is because of the river table.  When the river rises so does the table and the water comes into the school from underground.  It is something they just have to deal with said Schultz.

Crews were able to take a look at A.C. Bower Field and Schultz said they got off lucky.

Here too the river table does play a role in the field and its condition. Schultz explained that if you dig down a couple of feet on the football field you will probably strike water.

The river did reach close to the field this winter and more flooding is possible as more snow melts followed by rain.  Shultz said they are ready for whatever happens.
