Opinions, views, pledges and ideas were expressed Tuesday night during the Sterling Candidate Forum. The event was hosted by the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.
There were five Candidates in attendance: Incumbent Mayor Skip Lee and Mayoral Challengers Jim Wise and Marc Batley. For the Alderman position in the 1st Ward there were Incumbent Retha Elston and Dasan Klingenberg.
A couple of the candidates pictured the idea of needing change in Sterling City Hall. Klingenberg is one of those calling for change saying the city has forgotten the neighborhoods it serves.
Elston spoke of her efforts and accomplishments in the 1st Ward and for the community. She mentioned working for economic development and improvements for the citizens.
Another voice of change was that of Alderman and challenger for mayor, Jim Wise. He called this election a referendum and a chance for the people to vote for change.
Mayor Skip Lee spoke of the accomplishments in economic development and infrastructure in the city and his ability to bring people together to get the job done.
The Election will be held on April 2.
