City Officials Watching Closely What Shopko Bankruptcy May Mean for Dixon Store

The age of retail has and is going through major changes. It was announced this week the Wisconsin based retail chain Shopko will file for bankruptcy on Tuesday January 15th.

It is unclear what all of this means, especially for the Shopko location in Dixon.  City Manager Dan Langloss says he has not heard anything from the chain in regards to Dixon.

Langloss says from appearances the Dixon store has a good number of clientele and is vital to the Dixon economy.  He wanted to remind residents of the importance of shopping local so these stores will be able to remain in Dixon.

It was pointed out that several companies have gone through bankruptcy and have come out fine on the other side. Because of this, Langloss said he did not want to put the cart before the horse.

The city recently has made a big push to bring new business to the I-88 Corridor.  Langloss said they received interest from Hotel and restaurant chains, but, retail was something else.  He said the Amazon effect has put retail stores on the sidelines.
