Dixon City Government Reminds Residents Not to Put Leaves in the Street

It is getting that time of year again when your yard is being transformed from nice green grass to a field of leaves falling from your trees.

It seems kids love to run through piles of leaves or search for that special one with the just right colors.

For many other people it is a time to get out the blower and rake and try to get rid of the leaves.  Dixon Public Works Director Matt Heckman wants to remind people not to blow the leaves into the streets.

Just like it is not allowed to blow grass clippings into the street, it is not allowed to rake or blow leaves into the street.  Heckman says the city does not have a curb side pickup of leaves, but, Republic Services will pick them up if they are in the proper container.

Heckman says the reason for not putting the leaves in the street are the same as when you put grass in the street. Heckman says they can cause slippery conditions if they get wet and they can clog up the drain basins in the street.  Heckman also wants to remind people burning of leaves is not permitted in Dixon.
